I didn’t grow up dreaming about finance. I grew up intimidated by it. That’s exactly why I do this work.
Where it started
Where my money story began
When my parents divorced, my mom was left to raise four kids on her own, without financial support from my dad. She entered the workforce with a high school diploma, no work history, and no marketable skills. She kept food on the table and a roof over our heads on barely more than minimum wage, and for a period of time, we were on welfare.
I felt the weight of money in our home long before I had words for it. And I sure didn’t grow up wanting a career in finance. It wasn’t even in my frame of mind. Life had other plans.
The path
An unexpected road here
I built my career in corporate human resources, earning my MBA along the way and rising to vice president at a tech firm in San Francisco. When I started a family, I stepped away, and in 2010 I found my way into financial services.
The work that changed me was with women near or already in retirement. So many arrived feeling lost, judging themselves hard for past decisions, and wondering how long their money would last. I understood their pain, because I’d grown up inside that same uncertainty. Somewhere along the way, the field that once intimidated me became the place I was meant to be.
The philosophy
The yin and yang of money
There’s the inner side of money, the yin: your relationship with money, your beliefs, your history, how you feel about success itself. And there’s the practical side, the yang: key financial foundations, the places where wealth transfers away unknowingly and unnecessarily, and the risk areas that affect women more than men.
Most teaching covers one side. Heart & Soul Wealth brings them together, because real financial confidence needs both.
Money is simply a tool. It doesn’t change who we are at our core, but it can and often does amplify it.
